Beetle Kill Wood is the result of one of a growing number of detrimental beetle populations attacking evergreen and deciduous trees alike. The mountain pine beetle is the specific culprit and unusual weather patterns have resulted in an explosion in their population in the western forest. Thousand Cankers Disease
Thousand cankers disease is a relatively new fungal infection that seems to have an affinity for Walnut trees. The disease is a combination of damage caused by a native beetle, coupled with a canker producing fungal infection. While the disease itself is rarer than Emerald Ash Borer and Walnut trees seem at least partially capable of fending off an infection, it is still a growing concern among foresters and members of the forest products industry. Emerald Ash Borer
Emerald Ash Borer is an invasive Beetle from Asia that selectively bores into and carries out its life cycle in the outer layers of Ash trees. As the insect spreads it colonizes exponentially larger areas resulting in a 100% mortality rate for any Ash trees in the vicinity.
